John 19: 26-27: "When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home."
The beloved disciple, who does not say his own name, by pure inspiration, refers to Jesus' love for him. He felt that love intensely. John tells us about it in all of his writings, which contain an insistent approach to God's love (see related links at the end... "This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."). In his vigorous humility, he detaches himself from his own identity, he is the beloved disciple - what matters most of all is to witness this infinite Love. It was an inspiration because the Scriptures are the Eternal Word and what the Word profoundly means and accomplishes!
All of us - humanity - we are beloved, inscribed in John's anonymity, and children of this Woman: here is our Mother.
Our Lady, help us to lift up our hearts.

Prayer to St John the Evangelist
'O God, who through the blessed Apostle John have unlocked for us the secrets of your Word, grant, we pray, that we may grasp with proper understanding what he has so marvelously brought to our ears. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.'
