Saint Anthony's box

Français

Português

Saint Anthony always ready... generous in miracles! I wrote that, because the memory is unreliable. On October 20, 2019, my husband and I stored another batch of firewood, in the woodshed, for the winter. The bodies were already sore from the day before. We were a little discouraged at first. After all, we were not so young anymore.

To motivate myself, I said that Saint Anthony would help us. In my heart, I have truly asked for this. I hoped Saint Anthony would give us extra strength. I don't know why I thought of Saint Anthony.

Although the saint is well known here in Quebec, I don't think they know he was Portuguese. The name more popular is Saint Anthony of Padua; therefore, many people think he was Italian. During the conversation, with a certain vanity, I cannot deny it, I said that the saint was Portuguese. My husband didn't know. Vanity because we, Brazilians, still have a sense of identity and belonging in relation to Portugal; whether the Portuguese people like it or not, this legacy remains.

When I went to put small pieces of bark, to be used as kindling wood, in a cardboard box that my husband had separated for this purpose, I saw that the box came from Portugal. To top it off, it was written Cathedral in Portuguese. We hadn't noticed it. It was an improvised box as packaging for the bottles we had bought at the store.

Saint Anthony heard my prayer, he gave me the strength I had asked for... and the box. This episode will bounce back one day, that's for sure. The saint was probably in association with our guardian angels, under the patronage of the Virgin Mary through her Son, Jesus - the "upstairs" connections are so strong that the signal works even in the remotest and humblest corners of the universe, like our home.

Prière à Saint Antoine

(October 21, 2019)

Saint Antoine de Lisbonne, de Padoue,

Nous vous prions de partout !

Nous cherchons le bois d’allumage

pour raviver notre foi.

Donnez-nous le courage,

aidez-nous à retrouver

notre cœur enflammé.

Saint Antoine de Lisbonne, de Padoue,

si la foi nous abandonne,

Priez pour nous !
