It's already June. How time flies! And once again, the angel Gabriel's prophecy to Zechariah about Saint John the Baptist will be fulfilled: - Luke 1:14. "You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth."
Yes, I know, other saints are celebrated in June, with much joy and festivities, but the others are celebrated on the day of their death, that is, their passage to eternal life. Saint John the Baptist is celebrated for his birth on Earth, as the angel foresaw. The Church celebrates the birth of St. John the Baptist on June 24, and also his death, on August 29. But the festivities take place in the month in which his birth is celebrated.
In countries where St. John's Day is celebrated (called "festas juninas" in Portuguese), most people are unaware of the existence of this prophecy. I myself have participated in June festivities all my life, singing and cheering St. John, without ever realizing it.
I think it is very special that the Quebec's National Holiday is celebrated in association with the date of Saint John the Baptist (patron saint of French Canadians) and with fireworks! This brings back fond memories of Brazil! What a gift for me to continue participating in these festivities, now also celebrating the land that I adopted, that adopted me.
Praise be to angel Gabriel! Praise be to St. John! "Vive le Québec !"
