Crisis of legitimacy

Version en français

Many Brazilian members of the Chamber of Deputies who conducted Dilma Rousseff President impeachment proceedings, like its president, Eduardo Cunha, are corrupt... yes, they are corrupt and have their share of blame, they should not let themselves be dragged in the mud of corruption by the ruling party, PT (workers party), the head of the worst corruption ever seen in Brazil. Now they are all under pressure by the people who learned the extent of the corruption practiced that led the country to the ruin.

But there is a logical mistake by which the government and those who support it are trying to convince people and international press that the impeachment of Brazil’s president is not a legitimate process. They say that members of the Chamber of Deputies could not do so because they are corrupt. But the impeachment formal request was not asked by the politicians. This was done by a group of lawyers (Hélio Bicudo, Janaina Paschoal and Miguel Reale Jr.) and the document was approved by the Supreme Court of the country and legitimated to be submitted for analysis. According to the Brazilian Constitution, the Congress (deputies and senators) is responsible to choose whether the impeachment should happen or not, under the supervision of the Supreme Court. And this is what is being done.

But government supporters and the government itself are trying to sully the procedure by saying the corrupt politicians created it. Corrupt or not, they must process the request. They must vote yes or no. It's a shame that they are corrupt, but they were elected by the people and people are now in a bad mood and are monitoring them. The procedure is respecting the precepts of democracy, following what the Brazilian Constitution determines.
Just for information, to be aware of the magnitude of the situation, there were several requests for impeachment by several institutions. This one running was chosen because it was better based on legal criteria.
