Mary, Mother of God and our Mother

Faith is a wonderful gift from God. It takes our intelligence towards levels where our five senses cannot take us (1).

I am delighted to be able to share my experiences, because Pope Francis has asked us several times to be witnesses of the faith, of God's love, of His Mercy, etc. And that's what I'm trying to do.

Sometimes, from suffering we can learn means to grow. I have already spoken about this in another text (2). With the suffering of my husband, on his deathbed, I also suffered a lot. I asked the Virgin Mary to take our pain as penance, as She had told the little shepherds of Fátima to do; and I had the grace to have a little empathy with Her suffering and that of his Son during the Passion and the death of Jesus.

It was as if I saw Jesus through my husband in suffering and I loved Him with the love I had for my husband, which is like loving myself. It was intense, very painful, but full of Grace moments at the same time.

Since then, I have kept this association of ideas and understood, if only in a precarious way, the immense Love of God for humanity.

With all this, I am learning an ingenious process: to love the Man Jesus, in our measure, by trying to see Him through the neighbour, like a loved one. By loving His Humanity, we love God in Him, for His two natures are inseparable (3). It is a mental exercise, based on the experience I had, to end up loving the invisible God through what is visible and close to us, and thus to be able to concretely grasp the two greatest commandments (Matthew 22: 37-39 ... 4).

I am reinforcing this exercise, in response to a request from Father Dominic LeRouzès to the faithful, to seek the presence of God in times of suffering, during his homily on December 28, 2021 (5). Considering my limitations in face of the “duo” Cross (suffering) and Love, the Virgin Mary opened my heart to feel this, at a crucial moment in my life. It marked me forever.

I hope that this lesson will help me to live the new year, which is beginning, with Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, the most beautiful Flower, refreshment for our soul, Vessel of honor, Comforter of the afflicted.

Happy New Year everyone!
