"The
love of Jesus Christ for us in his Passion highlights the love of the good Lord
for us." -Saint André
of Montreal
I no longer ask myself this
question: "Why does God allow suffering?" I only thank for so many
graces that I receive, the main one, my faith [1]. But I know that many people
find reason to deny the existence of God, thinking that, being perfectly good,
He could not allow suffering. This question always comes back in calamitous
situations, like the one we are living with the Covid-19 pandemic.
The answer for us Catholics
is that this world in which we live - our universe - is the result of an error
made in the exercise of free will [2]. Instead of falling into nothing, we had
a second chance, now subject to the laws of this imperfect nature, which
started its trajectory and continues to evolve, an uphill battle, as a result
of the deadly error. Thankfully, we are allowed to see some beauty in it and
feel some consolation, so as not to despair completely [3].
We still have a remnant of
having been made in the image and likeness of God, as we continue to have our
own will, we can use our free will to choose “the Way, the Truth and the Life”,
which is Our Lord Jesus Christ. With infinite love for us, He came among us,
suffered as a man, even without having sinned. He died and rose from dead to
rescue us, drawing us to Him [4]. This is the mystery of our faith.
Happy Easter!
